In June, 1918, during the progress of the World War, he enlisted in the US Army, joining Battery G., Second Heavy Artillery, and was honorably discharged at Fort McArthur, Los Angles, on December 14, of that year. He is identified with Capital Lodge # 87, IOOF and acts as manager of the orchard ranch at Oaklawn, having charge of the planting of the new almond trees.

He was married to Gladys J. CHOPPIN in 1917 in Sacramento, Sacramento, CA. Gladys J. CHOPPIN ⁽¹¹⁾ was born about 1894 in CA.⁽⁴⁾ She died in Sep 1979 in Fair Oaks, Sacramento, CA. ⁽⁴⁾ She was from Pleasant Grove, Sutter, CA. Harold J DEWEY and Gladys J. CHOPPIN had the following children:
