24. William Henry GRIFFEN ^{(8)(6) (5)(4)} (photo) was born on 4 Jul 1841 in Elba, Genesee, NY.⁽⁴⁾ He died on 24 Aug 1918 in Easton, MD.⁽⁴⁾ He died at home. He enlisted in Co H, 129th Reg. NYHA during the Civil War. He was discharged with the rank of Corporal. They moved to Talbot County, MD in 1887 where he engaged in farming. About 1890 he gave up farming and moveed to the city of Easton and built what is known as the Farme'rs Sheds. This was the first enterprise of its kind started on the eastern shore and it proved of such value to the farmers that there are now farmers' sheds in almost every town. He was a member of the Hicks Post, G.A.R. , of Easton and for many years its commander. The following are newspaper clippings from the Progressive Batavian.
Sept 21, 1877 - East Oakfield - Mr. William H. Griffin has just completed the foundation for a large grist mill. "Billy" understand his business and we wish him well.
Oct. 19, 1877 - East Oakfield - Some hungry rascal entered the cellar of William H. Griffin a few nights since, and took therefrom a few pounds of beef and a quanity of butter. Moral - keep your cellar doors locked.
July 6, 1894 - Daniel D. son of Mr. and Mrs. W.H. Griffin, of Easton, MD, formerly of Elba, died on Sunday, June 16th, at the residence of this parents, in the 9th year of his age. He was a promising child and a favorite among all his acquanintances. He died of diabetes after some five weeks of painful sickness. The may relatives and friends of the family here will deeply sympathize with bereaved.

He was married to Caroline CHAPMAN (daughter of Elijah CHAPMAN and Elvira STAPLES) on 1 Jan 1866 in Litchfield, MI.⁽⁴⁾ Caroline CHAPMAN ⁽⁴⁾ (photo) was born on 25 Mar 1844 in Litchfield, MI.⁽⁴⁾ She died on 22 Nov 1929 in Oakfield, Genesee, NY. ⁽⁴⁾ She died at her daughter's home. She was buried in Easton, MD. ⁽⁴⁾ "Carrie" came to live with her daughter, Elvira, in Oakfield, NY, seven years before her death. She was a member of the Oakfield WCTU. William Henry GRIFFEN and Caroline CHAPMAN had the following children:

+80 i. Almond GRIFFEN⁽⁴⁾ was born about 1867 in MI. He lived in Detroit and Grand Rapids, MI and in Buffalo, NY.
+81 ii. Elvira Viola GRIFFEN was born in 1869 in East Oakfield, Genesee, NY. ⁽⁴⁾ She died on 8 Jun 1934. ⁽⁴⁾ She was buried in Maple Lawn Cemetery, Elba, Genesee, NY. ⁽⁴⁾
82 iii. Ora C. GRIFFEN⁽⁴⁾ was born about 1872. He lived in Coldwater, MI.
83 iv. Earl GRIFFEN⁽⁴⁾ was born on 18 Dec 1875. He died on 11 Jul 1883 in East Oakfield, Genesee, NY. He is Pearl's twin.
84 v. Pearl GRIFFEN⁽⁵⁾ was born on 18 Dec 1875. She died on 2 Apr 1877 in East Oakfield, Genesee, NY. ⁽⁵⁾ She died of whooping cough. She was Earl's twin.
85 vi. Jay C. GRIFFEN⁽⁴⁾ was born about 1879. He lived in Detroit, MI.
86 vii. Daniel D. GRIFFEN was born on 16 Jun 1885. He died on 16 Jun 1894 in Easton, MD.⁽⁴⁾ He died of diabetes after a 5 week illness.
87 viii. Guy GRIFFEN⁽⁴⁾. He lived in Easton, MD.
